MySQL on OS X. What the hell?

There is a package out there to “install” MySQL v 5.1 onto my 10.5.6 Mac.  Big mistake.  It wouldn’t start.  It destroyed my old MySQL data (with some help from me).  After fighting with it for the evening, I did a system restore using Time Machine (WAY cool).  I didn’t go back far enough and the next morning (the system restore takes a LONG time), I had the same problem.  Did another system restore.  Then, Apache wouldn’t start.  Time Machine didn’t restore the /var/apache2/ directory for log files.  Add the directory.  Installed the latest big update from Apple.  Re-loaded this blog.

Here we are again.  Now to start working on content.

I recently picked up Ubuntu (sp) Linux and also the Latest Red Hat version….going to get a server up soon myself…

I have several older machines….that I will refurbish with extra RAM, hard drive and whatever else it might need…

The trick at my house is to get someone to bring me a cable or fiber….7 miles outside a small town in the woods…is too far for highspeed.

My ISP is my cell phone tethred….so untill I get hardwired full time copper or a microwave link…im a Lameoid!

That still surprises me, Mark. Even in backwoods northern Wisconsin, there’s digital PABXs all over the place. Most people can get at least a DSL connection I think.

Set yourself up a microwave link…

Yeah, you would think DSL would be available everywhere. Not so, in mt redneck village.

Motorola make a “canopy” system that work at 5Ghz with directional antenna…but the buy in is a bit expensive.

I just picked up an AT&T quick connect USB device. Im on it now, “speedtest.net has me at 1.1M/sec download and 800k/sec upload..not bad.

but its not always on and connected to a proper router with port forwarding.
